Vintage Timepiece (STEAMPUNK) Style Drop Spindle No.188
Weight/Dimensions: 1.2 oz. (35g), Whorl: Acrylic/Alloy .31” x 1.98” (8mm x 50mm), Shaft: 3/32” dia. x Overall Length: 8” (20.3cm)
Made from a total of 43 individual pieces, the centerpiece of this Vintage Timepiece Drop Spindle is a brass, Circa 1965, metal foil finished Sovereign Pocket Watch Dial that is a perfect backdrop for this stunning Greeen Dragon. The dial is specially prepared and the commercial acetate art is applied to the surface - along with 23 Swarovski Crystal Rhinestones in Medium Vitrail and Crystal Volcano colors - then it is coated in a thick layer of epoxy resin for a long lasting/no-snag surface. The whorl is made from the finished dial, a gold tone/plated alloy flat ring (to give the spindle nice rim weight - and to resemble dragon skin:-), a 1/8" thick laser cut acrylic disc, and a large vintage brass clock gear - all laminated together and mounted to a Metallic Hot Magenta colored steel shaft. The top and bottom sides are finished off with gold and silver tone/plated jewelry findings and 8 larger Swarovski Crystal Volcano Rhinestones. The shaft is made from high carbon (spring) steel with a heat-forged hook that has a 2-part powder coat paint finish applied for a beautiful look and feel. All components are assembled with industrial 2-part epoxy adhesive.
This is a wonderfully balanced light to medium weight drop spindle that will work perfectly for a wide variety of fine and longer staple fibers.
