This STEAMPUNK Drop Spindle design stems from the use of a rare find - a strikingly beautiful vintage (1975-1980) Deep Blue metal foil Westclox Scepter pocket watch dial in near perfect condition. The STEAMPUNK Design uses authentic antique to vintage (1880’s to 1970’s) wrist and pocket watch balance wheel, polished winding gears, brass drive gears, springs and levers, and ruby jewels that are bonded to the surface and coated with 2 thick layers of epoxy resin finish (approximately 3/32" thick).
The WHORL is made from a laser cut acrylic disc that I've edge milled and polished to soften the edges. The shaft is made from high carbon (spring) steel with a forged hook that has a 2-part powder coat paint finish applied for a beautiful look and feel. There are 36 iridescent Cobalt AB and Black-Diamond Ab Swarovski Crystal Rhinestones attached to the whorl and they, the dial, and gold plated findings, antique clock gear and other clock components (bottom side) are assembled with an industrial 2-part epoxy glue. The bottom side of this top-whorl drop spindle has a large (1.75" dia.) vintage clock gear attached for added stability and rim weight.
