Vintage Timepiece (STEAMPUNK) Style Drop Spindle No.225 - Larger Size - Circa 1860 English Carriage Clock Dial

WEIGHT: 2.5 oz. (73g), WHORL: 2.49” (63mm) diameter, SHAFT: .125" (3.2mm) dia. x 10" (25.4cm) length (Uncoated/Raw Steel)

Made from 68 individual pieces, this unique Antique Timepiece Drop Spindle spindle is made from a gorgeous Circa 1860, made in England, white porcelain enamel over copper Carriage/Travel Clock Dial with hand drawn Roman Numerals and markings. The dial was specially prepared and adorned with a large antique geared brass clock wheel (center) that is filled with cobalt color and mica tinted epoxy, an antique Verge Fusee pocket watch balance wheel, a vintage brass escapement wheel, and several vintage watch winding gears with cobalt blue crystals inside around the perimeter of the dial - it is then coated in a thick layer of epoxy resin for a no-snag and long life finish. The dial is laminated to a 2.5" x 1/8" thick acrylic disc and a large brass clock gear on the bottom side to make up the whorl - then it is mounted to a 1/8" diameter raw (high carbon/spring) steel shaft. the bottom side of the whorl has an additional (1/16" thick) acrylic disc mounted to it and is coated in cobalt blue tinted epoxy with 32 Capri Blue Swarovski crystal rhinestones mounted inside of the tarnished silver plated filigree pendant that covers them. The whorl is finished off on the top and bottom sides with two ornate polished steel watch winding gears, a multi-crystal spacer bead, and sever gold and platinum plated findings around the shaft. All components of this spindle are mounted with an industrial strength 2-part epoxy adhesive and the steel shaft is coated with a anti-rust spray - although it will develop surface rust over time and oil may need to be re-applied.

This is a heavier weight drop spindle that has plenty of rim weight for an amazing and well balance spin - and would be great for spinning longer staple fibers, art yarn, and for plying.
