Jewelry Style Tahkli Support Spindle No.649
Silver Filigree, Crystals, and Alloy Coin Whorl - in a choice of 10 Shaft Colors (shown in Metallic Cobalt Blue) with Matching Color Coat on Surface of Coin
WEIGHT: 1.3oz. (36g), WHORL: 1.27" (32mm) diameter, SHAFT: smaller Tahkli size = .106" (2.7mm) diameter x 7.75" length (19.7cm)
This Tahkli (Style) Support Spindle is made with a 1.26” diameter polished 1980's Mexico 20-Peso coin as a whorl and is adorned on top and bottom with matching silver-plated filigree pendants, gold plated multi-crystal bead spacers, and a variety of silver and gold plated findings - all surrounding the hand-made spring steel shaft with a heat forged hook that is coated with a 2-coat hi-temperature powder-coat paint. The coin is coated with a 2-part epoxy that is tinted to the shaft color prior to assembly - giving it a deep glow that is bounced off the polished surface below. All parts are mounted with industrial 2-part epoxy and the edge of the coin whorl and filigree pendants are polished to a bright shine after all is assembled and cured.
This is one of my most ambitious Tahklis to date - with 21 individual parts and many steps to complete - but it is an amazing spindle when finished. This is a medium weight Tahkli style spindle and it spins fast and long – making it great for not only cotton, but other short staple fibers.
